Commercial Construction Celebrates Perkins Homes Groundbreaking

Commercial Construction, along with the Housing Authority of Baltimore Abrahams, Governor Larry Hogan, Mayor Brandon Scott, Baltimore Council President Nick Mosby, and other notables, kicked off the Perkins-Somerset-Oldtown (PSO) Transformation Plan with a groundbreaking ceremony on August 30.

Commercial Construction will be replacing Perkins Homes with new mixed-income housing. The PSO Transformation plan will replace all public housing units 1-for-1.

Perkins Homes Tenant Leadership Council President Denise Street was grateful to see the final Perkins building come down. “On behalf of the residents of Perkins Homes, I want to thank everybody who participated in this project that we’ve been praying for a long time,” she said. “Now, I just can’t wait to come back home.”

Pam Askew, Senior Vice President of the development company McCormack Baron Salazar, sees a bright future. “Commercial Construction, Kevin, our general contractor, I look forward to starting construction with you this fall and providing opportunities for our resident hires as well as investing in MBE companies.”

The demolition makes room for a mixed-use community that will include housing, schools, and green space.
