New Senior Housing, Retail and Office Space to be Built on Former Memorial Stadium Site
Groundbreaking for New Mixed-Use Development Attracts Officials and Community Leaders

Baltimore, MD (October 4, 2019) – Commercial Development and Investments, LLC, in partnership with Govans Ecumenical Development Corp (GEDCO), today broke ground on Village Center at Stadium Place, a new mixed-use development on the former Memorial Stadium site at 1100 E. 33rd Street, Baltimore, that will provide housing for older adults along with office and retail space.

Announcement of the new Village Center at Stadium Place was made during a ceremony today that drew state and local leaders along with community stakeholders. The project is part of the larger master-planned community, Stadium Place, and is expected to be completed in early 2021.

“Village Center at Stadium Place addresses the need for more quality housing for seniors in Baltimore City, and to have the other amenities they need within a short distance away,” said Kevin Johnson, CEO of Commercial Development and Investments, whose firm is responsible for building the project. “We are pleased to partner with GEDCO on this important project. Making sure seniors have the high-quality and affordable housing they deserve is a goal of Commercial’s and GEDCO’s, and it is our shared commitment to this community.”

Once complete, the $26 million complex will house 70 apartments one and two bedroom units for seniors (62+) and 33,000 sq. ft. of retail and office space. The new development adds to existing senior housing.

“Today’s groundbreaking continues a plan that was years in the making,” said GEDCO CEO Nichole Battle. “There is a tremendous demand for senior housing in Baltimore City, which we can attest to by the more than 500 people on the waiting list for housing at Stadium Place. We are excited about the potential of this new development, which will not only meet the housing needs of our seniors, but also serve as a retail and health care anchor for the community at large.”
